Cape Neddick Lighthouse
Cape Neddick Lighthouse is located in York, Maine. The light was first illuminated in July, 1879 and automated in 1987. The island and the station are leased to the town of York. The white conical tower is made up of two layers of brick and reinforced with a covering of wrap around steel plates. It is 14 feet in diameter and the base floor is sold brick. In the lens room, the bulbs and glass prisms are set into a strong solid brass frame, which is surrounded by red plexiglas. The red beacon flashes on for three seconds and off for three seconds. On the dome tower platform, the railing is supported by twelve posts on where there are 12 balck cast iron carvings of the lighthouse tower.
The keepers dwelling is connected to the light tower by a covered walkway. On the property, is also a brick paint locker, a wooden shop building and a boat house.
At Christmas season, the lighthouse is decorated with lights. On the Saturday following Thanksgiving, the lights are turned on and remain on throughout the Holiday Season. All the buildings are outlined with tiny white lights, and wreaths are hung on the main buildings. ***It is my dream to see "Nubble" at Christmas season....maybe one day.....
Cape Neddick is one of my favorite lighthouses. I especially enjoy visiting this beautiful lighthouse in winter---with lots of snow to highlight the red roofs.
***Directions: From I-95 or U.S. Route 1 in York, take (maked with a small "Nubble Light" sign). Follow this road to Sohier Park and the parking area.

Cape Cod Lighthouse
"Keep The Lights Shining", is my favorite expression. I love to visit lighthouses, climb to the top of their tall towers with spiral stairs, and to photograph them. My son jokes with me when I take my last look at a lighthouse before leaving it, and says "burn it in your retina".
When I am not visiting a lighthouse, I enjoy reading books about them, or surfing the web for websites about lighthouses. I hope that you enjoy your visit to "Jo's Wonderland". It is a pleasure to share my hobby with you.
In this section of my website, I shall try to provide interesting information on various selected lighthouses--a different lighthouse each month. For more information about all the lighthouses on my website, please visit my "Lighthouse Wonderland" section.
